Exciting news, guys.
Health Kismet is now capable of accepting payments in the Bitcoin currency. When you go to the purchase page you’ll now be confronted with the following image:
If you want to pay for Incredible Greens in Bitcoin you’ll need to click on the button on the right hand side of the screen. You’ll be taken to a separate checkout and can purchase as you normally would.
A Few Technical Issues
Because the bitcoin checkout process is served through an entirely different backend than normal purchases certain conditions will be different.
- Coupon codes and bulk discounts will not apply. You can only purchase bottles at full price.
- Shipping charges will be levied per bottle ordered at $6 per bottle. This is probably going to change fairly soon in the future but for now it is what it is. No flat fee.
- Orders will still be available to US and Canadian customers.
What Is Bitcoin?
Some of you are probably thinking to yourself “what on earth is Bitcoin?”
It’s a digital currency that’s been growing in popularity over the last three years and is beginning to gain popular acceptance beyond obscure techie cottage industries. Here is its description on the organization website.
Here’s a useful excerpt from that page:
Building upon the notion that money is any object, or any sort of record, accepted as payment for goods and services and repayment of debts in a given country or socio-economic context, Bitcoin is designed around the idea of using cryptography to control the creation and transfer of money, rather than relying on central authorities.
You can sort of think of it as the Napster of currency.
It’s unique in that it’s a peer to peer currency that doesn’t require any centralized institution to control its production. It exists entirely in the digital realm, and mostly lies outside the vanguard of traditional financial institutions. This allows for its advantageous features.
Why We Chose To Do It
I liked the idea of implementing Bitcoin for the following reasons:
- Lower transaction costs than traditional credit cards
- Increased privacy and no chargebacks (due to the details of the technology)
- Better options for international shipping (when that becomes a priority)
- It’s just a cool technology in general and I wanted to see what it was like.
In the long run I think Bitcoin integration will give Health Kismet exposure to people who previously wouldn’t have known about it and lower costs due to the savings from reduced interchange fees and card processing issues. (Not that there’s ever been an issue with that).
Where It’s At Now, And Where It’s Going
This is a move that’s more about the future than the present. Admittedly, for most of our current customers there’s no compelling reason to use Bitcoin over the traditional route. Bitcoin is a nascent technology and not quite well rounded yet.
The benefits of this move will be felt further down the road when we’ve had the time to integrate it into existing business systems. But that doesn’t mean it’s not a good idea to start using it now while we get from point A to point B.
A Special Sale
However, this friday there will be a compelling reason to pay with Bitcoin instead of regular ol’ dollars. Bitcoin merchants across the country are joining together to have their own version of Black Friday. It’s called Bitcoin Black Friday and you can read more about it here and here.
To participate in this event Health Kismet is offering Incredible Greens for a 40% discount if purchased on November 9 with Bitcoin.
If you have questions about how to get and use Bitcoin the official website has a good guide.
No coupon codes are required. The price will simply be lowered from $39.99 to $24.99. (Or from 3.8 to 2.4 bitcoins if you’re keeping track :))
