Obvious, But Enlightening Research

From the CDC:

After countless studies on the positive effects of not smoking, eating healthful foods, exercising a bit and limiting how much alcohol you drink, a new study finally tells Americans how much they could gain from those behaviors.

The study released today from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that Americans who practiced all four of those healthy behaviors were 63 percent less likely to die early than those who practiced none of them.

In general, I doubt the overall gist of the study would surprise anyone. After I read this article I wasn’t clear what was considered “early mortality”, and nothing was listed in the abstract.

However, I did find the following statistic interesting:

About 5 percent of the participants practiced all of the healthy behaviors

That seemed a bit low to me, even with all the doom-and-gloom you hear from research on these types of topics.
